安 大 衛 - What does it mean?
August 28, 2003
You've seen these Chinese characters (安 大 衛) on the top of the page, and probably scattered around. I'm sure, unless you can read Chinese, that you're wondering:
- What significance do they have here?
- What do they mean?
I'm going to answer those in order.
What significance do they have?

安 大 衛 is my Chinese name. It's pronounced 'On Dai Wai' in Cantonese, 'Or Da Wei' in Mandarin, although see below for a more precise explanation of the pronounciation. 'Dai Wai' is the Cantonese for David, and 'On' is what I'm using as my family name. I used to have 'Oh' as the family name, but it apparently has some dodgy meanings.
(This page is also an excuse to develop the styles need for a project later on, where I display all the Unihan.txt file after parsing it with perl.)
What do they mean?
